One of my most favorite things to do is photograph children’s birthday parties. Especially ones that Amelia Hurst throws. They now live in a charming older house in Niwot, Colorado and have completed the quintessential scene by adding chickens, a donkey, a goat, handmade birthday banner across the porch, jars of jelly for the guests, pony rides, plates full of flapjacks, fruit salad and quiche. And if that wasn’t enough, she went and built a TREE HOUSE. Yes, she did. And I have the photos to prove it. For better or for worse, I am certainly NOT known for my crystal-clear-perfect-everyone-looking-crisply-into-the-camera family portraits, so the candid shots I got of the crew are pretty true to Recherche’s candid style. Happy Birthday, Ridge! You are a LUCKY boy!! Click here to see Ridge’s 1st Birthday Party, the Hurst Family last portrait session and Newborn Portraits of his big brother, Sterling. (And stay tuned for a finger-crossed new addition that will hopefully be adopted into this lovely family.)
There’s always an exception to the rule. I don’t work on Sundays. But when Mary called to tell me she was throwing a Halloween costume party for her daughter’s first birthday and they would like candid images of the event, I was in. There is no way I can resist tiny children in costumes. This party was definitely an event I was unwilling to miss! So fun!!
