When Charley and Kit started talking about their wedding day they said they wanted their wedding day to last as long as possible. So their ceremony was scheduled for sunrise (approx. 6:30am) on September, 19, 2009 at the Boulder Sunrise Amphitheater. For anyone that knows me at ALL, I’ve got to really like you a lot to get out of bed before 10am. I started shooting at 4:30am. Yup. Whoa. That’s a new one for me! In the ten years I’ve been shooting I have never started that early!! And it was an amazing experience! So unusual, such a different type of light. HUGE kudos to my assistant, Caroline Colvin, who agreed to work this wedding with me, picked me up at 4am and captured some stunning shots (like the one above and below)!!

After the ceremony everyone hiked a bit to the Stone Shelter where fresh coffee, juice and pastries were served. Yum! They had a mic set up for toasts and there were lots!!
And Kit surprised Charley with a song she had been practicing for him for the last two months. Jewel’s “Morning Song.” Beautiful!
So then Charley was “encouraged” to sing a few songs!
The whole party was shuttled down to LionsGate Manor for their reception.
Now, check this out. Charley and Kit MADE this cake stand. He is a world-renowned arborist and spent a long time looking for the perfect (already fallen) tree for their cake. It is literally just leaning against the wall, perfectly balanced. No nails or screws anywhere! A masterpiece!
And another first: never have I seen a cake like this! Orange blossom cake by Das Meyers in Arvada. Isn’t it just spectacular?!!
Caroline got this sweet shot from upstairs with my fisheye lens. So cool!!
One of my favorite things to do is to spin around during the cake cutting and do panorama shots of all the guests! This room was perfectly situated! Now I should actually stitch all those shots together to get a real panoramic image! Maybe tomorrow…
Who knew, Kit is a rapper. She busted out “Ice Ice Baby” for her guests. Classic!
She also made sure the DJ played their favorite siblings’ song by Ace of Base!
The arborists all cleaned up!!
I love a good spinning image! Perfect ending to a perfect wedding. Wrapped up a 9 hour shoot at 2pm! Gotta love that! Thank you, Kit & Charley for an amazing experience!! I hope you had the most fabulous time on your European cruise!!
