Phew! Ecstatic to have just finished this wedding!! Jake & Meadow planned their wedding at a beautiful hotel near their home in Kirkland, Washington. When I first spoke to Jake about their plans he said something along these lines: “We both love your work, but Recherché Photography is for luxury weddings and we’re just not planning anything that extravagant. It is going to be pretty simple. I’m just not sure our event is going to be worth your caliber.” Now that threw me for a pretty big loop. Ever since that conversation I have been wondering- have I over-branded Recherché? Are people looking at my work and thinking their wedding isn’t GOOD enough for me to photograph?? Should I re-do my website and put on the front page, “all I need is a couple in love planning a ceremony that is a reflection of their values and LIGHT.” Heather Dwight recommended I not make any impulsive changes, but I wish so very much that I knew how to tell the world that I’m not too glamorous for their wedding. And since it is so late and I’m a bit delirious from editing, I might go as far as to say that Recherché Photography takes a simple wedding and spins it into gold…anyone feel a fairy tale metaphor emerging? That is what I do- I see the magic in between the moments and I photograph it. The magic is everywhere. It certainly was saturating Jake & Meadow’s wedding and I was honored to have captured it for them.
I think they were telling me that I was done shooting for the evening- funny, I didn’t notice this shot really until I was editing! ![]()
